Run for Congo Women Intern

Title:                 Run for Congo Women Intern

Area:                Headquarters

Dept:               Marketing and Development

Location:            Washington DC

Reports to:         Grassroots Marketing Officer

Summary

Women for Women International is a non-profit women’s humanitarian organization whose growth has sky-rocketed in the past three years due to phenomenal media attention, a well-positioned mission and proven success in achieving that mission – including winning in fall of 2006 the most prestigious humanitarian award given, the Conrad N. Hilton Award. Join the team that is capitalizing on that growth.

Run for Congo Women was started in 2005 by Women for Women International supporter, Lisa Shannon, in hopes of raising awareness about the situation facing women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She raised enough money to support 80 women by running 30 miles through the woods in her native Portland, Oregon. Since then, she and other individuals have organized dozens of runs throughout the country, raising almost $200,000 and supporting hundreds of women in the DRC.

Run for Congo Women has been featured in The Oprah Magazine, The Oregonian, Fitness Magazine and Lisa has been honored as one of Runner’s World 2006 Heroes.

We expect the continuous growth of the Run for Congo Women and rely on it to bring in new sponsors as we anticipate we’ll double our program in the next three years to support more women survivors of war.

The Run for Congo Intern will play an invaluable role as we develop continued outreach and involvement across the country.
