Summary

Developing and Supporting the WfWI Policy Platform

• Build and strengthen relationships with Congressional and assorted international organizations’ staff in order to advance WfWI’s policy priorities;

Developing and Executing the WfWI Advocacy Strategy Based on Policy Analysis

  • In coordination with the U.S. Executive Director, departmental staff, and a range of global, regional, and national partners, provide leadership in shaping and implementing WfWI advocacy objectives in support of key policy priorities
  • Strategize and execute WfWI advocacy work and move policy commitments forward with a range of partners, including international and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international organizations, national governments, UN agencies, donors, the media, grassroots coalitions, and other civil society partners
  • • Coordinate with departmental and international staff on the design and implementation of global advocacy campaigns and provide technical assistance on national and international advocacy activities
    • Supervise the advocacy team charged with:
    o Gathering and consolidating information on key international events, activities, and research related to international women’s issues,  health and economic development to use in shaping advocacy needs and messages;
    o Transforming research and policy analysis into advocacy and information materials/documents, including briefing cards, fact sheets, newsletters, etc.; and
    o Working with staff and partners to develop and support national and regional networks and advocacy strategies on key women’s/gender issues, including workshops, meetings, media outreach, and materials;

    Required Qualifications
    • Ideally both Congressional and NGO experience
    • Ideally at least 10 years of experience in global advocacy/communications in a non-profit international organization.
    • Familiarity with the international women’s community and issues, including multilateral agencies, Congressional initiatives and actors, donors and international NGOs.
    • Strong values-based leadership skills, with the ability to work well with the members of the management team.
    • Experience working in a complex, high-performing organization.
    • Track record of successful mentoring, supervision and development of staff.
    • Well-honed strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to be flexible and adaptable and revise strategies as necessary.
    • Comfortable and productive in a fluid work environment.
    • Law or Masters Degree in Public Policy, International Affairs, Gender or related field preferred.

Director of Communications

Purpose:
In this exciting chapter of our story, we are seeking to hire a Communications Director to expand our communications reach in the US and assist in our communications efforts world-wide. A seasoned Communications Director will design and execute a sophisticated communications plan that will help amplify the voices of the socially-excluded women we serve in eight countries globally.  We are looking for an experienced, resourceful and innovative individual with strong leadership skills, advanced oral and written communication abilities, a highly strategic thinker to build on the organization’s success and identify new opportunities for positioning and further growth.  Communications initiatives include: media/press and stakeholder outreach, publications production, with a special emphasis on leveraging information on WfWI program and policy initiatives to appropriate and diverse agents of change.  

Preferred:
- Master’s degree
- A degree in journalism or communications
- Solid relationships with reporters at the national level and strong networking skills
- Experience with public policy at the national level, and preferably at an international level
- A strong interest in international women’s issues, including war, economic development, health and human rights
- Experience in a policy-oriented environment, preferably in hard news arena

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
I. Communications Strategy and Marketing/Branding Collaboration:

Help plan and execute a global WfWI communications strategy, with emphasis on issues affecting socially excluded women globally, such as war, economic development, health and human rights, with an eye to appealing to multiple and diverse target audiences for a variety of projects, events, and publications.
Working closely with the Director of Policy and Advocacy and others within the organization, manage public information, community outreach activities and special projects that inform audiences about WfWI special events, programs and advocacy efforts.
Oversee design and publication of WfWI special reports, policy position papers and education/outreach material, working closely with Director of Policy and Advocacy to support the WfWI advocacy strategy.
Represent WfWI in a variety of community outreach activities, meetings, and public forums; speak to groups and individuals regarding WfWI's activities and mission.
Promote WfWI's work and accomplishments to new audiences.
Working with Communications and Marketing Directors, develop marketing collateral, drafting and editing brochures, press releases, media advisories, event announcements, pitch letters, fact sheets and other press materials as needed.

II. Media Relations:

Develop and manage an annual media calendar that supports the annual communications strategy. 

Develop WfWI’s presence in the news media, in addition to soft media, in consultation with U.K. and country offices.

Identify ongoing news opportunities to keep policy agenda priorities and organizational achievements in the news, and establish WfWI key, senior staff as media resources in priority areas affecting global women at the grassroots.

Conduct regular assessments of ongoing WfWI work throughout the world to identify media opportunities. Monitor news in a timely fashion and position key staff members to comment.

Work with subject matter experts to develop background materials, Q&As, and other collateral.

Coordinate with writers to ensure message consistency and to identify, draft, and place op-eds.

III. Other Communications and Outreach Activities:

Serve as the point of contact on communications matters, especially organization-wide activities and publications such as the “Stronger Women, Stronger Nations” reports series.

Work with senior staff to promote consistent messaging that resonates in media reporting and editorial writing.

Identify opportunities for WfWI policy experts to develop op-eds, policy briefs, letters to the editors, etc.; assist in drafting these written materials as necessary.

Work closely with the Director for Online Marketing to ensure appropriate synergies between Marketing and Communications departments and to: coordinate overall electronic media strategy and web presence, including developing materials for electronic newsletter and making certain website is up to date; draft and compile materials related to timely issues for web publication.
 
Work closely with Director for Offline Marketing to ensure brochures and outreach materials are updated accurately and include upcoming events, testimony, op-eds, and other related materials.

Engage external stakeholders, including academic community, policymakers and key government officials via multiple communications tactics.

The primary purpose of the position is to help devise and implement effective media, communications, and publications strategies for WfWI.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    * Under direction of the Communications Director, help develop and implement media, communications, and publications strategy and tactics, in collaboration with Policy and Advocacy staff
    * Act as the first point of contact for media inquiries, and coordinate interdepartmental requests for media and communications support
    * Identify opportunities for media-based advocacy on issues of concern to WfWI
    * Handle media requests and develop media opportunities for senior staff
    * Draft strategic pitches, press releases and media advisories, organize press conferences and other press events, and assist with press placement
    * Maintain an extensive database record of media contacts (domestic and international) and develop and maintain relations with key journalists on the range of issues of concern to WfwI
    * In cooperation with policy and advocacy staff, assist in refining publication concepts and revising early drafts of publications and other printed materials
    * Generate and review content in WfWI’s publications and website

QUALIFICATIONS

    * Bachelor’s Degree required
    * 5 years of media experience as a journalist or communications professional
    * Familiarity with global women’s issues, particularly in conflict/post conflict, such as health, education, poverty and violence against women; relevant education in public policy/communications/journalism a plus
    * Contacts in U.S. media, particularly on relevant issues
    * Excellent written and verbal skills in English as well as editing experience; additional languages a plus
    * Ability to listen and communicate clearly and effectively with people from diverse cultures
    * High level of self-motivation, initiative, and creativity

Duties and responsibilities
The Writer will be primarily responsible for writing, editing and developing content for our outreach activities, including the website and organizational newsletters.

Responsibilities will include:

  • In cooperation with policy and advocacy staff, assist in drafting and revising early drafts of publications and other printed materials
  • Generate and review content in WfWI’s publications and website
  • Writing, editing and managing content and production of newsletter
  • Providing content as needed for story pitches, press releases and other materials
  • Drafting, reviewing and providing input on media outreach materials, as needed
  • Drafting, editing and producing annual reports, organizational brochures and other marketing materials
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

 

  • 7-10 years of professional writing experience in an academic, think tank, public policy and/or NGO setting, with a focus on promoting action-oriented research, philanthropy or social causes, particularly in the international sphere 
  • In-depth knowledge and nuanced understanding of economic, social and political issues that affect women’s lives before, during and after conflict
  • Outstanding writing, editing, and research skills
  • Knowledge of publishing software; Graphic experience a plus
  • Affinity for the mission of WfWI as demonstrated through a combination of work experience, education and volunteerism.
  • Education: Bachelor (BA, BS etc.) in political science, international affairs, international development, gender or conflict studies related field required.  Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • Creativity, confidence and the ability to collaborate and succeed in a dynamic international organization.

Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist

Purpose:
The M&E Officer will function as part of a global team that implements the organization’s monitoring and evaluation efforts through a broad range of activities. The M&E Officer will assist in implementing assigned monitoring and evaluation activities within the overall M&E strategy for the organization. S/he will assist headquarters and country offices in the design, collection, and analysis of data from routine program monitoring as well as outcome reporting. The position will be based in Washington DC and reports to the M&E Specialist.
Responsibility:

  • Provide support to country staff in the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities, guide data collection, analysis and reporting as needed
  • Assist in implementing a monitoring and evaluation strategy that demonstrates the outcome of the program interventions on specific participant’s changes related to income, decision making, wellness and community engagement
  • Work with assigned country and headquarters staff to plan activities needing monitoring and evaluation input
  • Travel to assigned country programs to collaborate in the implementation of monitoring and evaluation activities as needed
  • Assist the countries’ M&E Officers in developing and revising data collection procedures and protocols for adaptation and application in country settings

Qualifications

  • Master degree in social sciences or fields related to research methods, statistics, international development, gender development etc.
  • Overall work experience of three years or more with a minimum of two years of experience that directly relates to monitoring and evaluation of social programs
  • Experience in designing surveys, primary data collection and/or analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to provide management leadership of monitoring and evaluation including design and implementation of activities in developing countries
  • Computer skills required in word processing and (statistical) analysis software packages such as SPSS, MS Excel and Access; spreadsheet, graphics and presentation software skills

Human Resources Assistant

Overview:
The Human Resources Assistant will provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department on all personnel matters and payroll processing. The Assistant will work closely with the Human Resources Manager on a variety of tasks including human resources functions and event coordination.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the orientation of new employees and answer employee questions regarding benefits and policies.
  • Serves as a backup to the receptionist
  • Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
  • Verifies I-9 documentation and maintains books current.
  • Reconciles all benefits statements through Payroll.

Director, Sponsorship & Marketing Operations

Summary

Women for Women International is a non-profit women’s humanitarian organization with rapid year-over-year growth, significant media attention and proven success in achieving our mission – including winning the prestigious the Conrad N. Hilton humanitarian award. 

We rely on our Marketing team to drive Revenue for the organization in the form of contributions and sponsorship of one woman at a time through monthly contributions.

As a leader in the Marketing team, the Director will be specifically responsible for managing the Sponsorship program including retention, program management, operations and communications as well as the Customer Service function. This includes identifying and effecting operational improvements within  current processes and systems, and change management within the US-based team and chapter offices in eight locations worldwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage sponsorship program and operations end-to-end, including defining and achieving success metrics, identifying and leading process change including greater use of technology and automation to drive efficiency where needed in order to grow the sponsorship volume 30% per year without corresponding staffing growth.
  • Recruit, manage and develop staff to coordinate the sponsorship program around the globe
  • Optimize the sponsorship experience by gathering and analyzing feedback from current and past sponsors and recommending changes to the program where appropriate to ensure maximum sponsor satisfaction and retention.
  • Manage change processes with US-based and in-country staff to ensure new procedures being used and continue to meet business needs.  This includes evaluating outsourcing options as well as developing business requirements for enhancing marketing systems to support future scaling of sponsorship efforts.
  • Work closely with Online Marketing Director and serve as primary stakeholder for the creation and ongoing management of the online sponsorship community experience.
  • Create programs to upgrade, gift and add-on sponsorship opportunities for the current sponsorship base leveraging knowledge of acquisition efforts.
  • Develop strategy for tiered pricing models and sponsorship offerings.
  • Develop renewal and payments metrics to increase payment rates, renewal rates and save rates.
  • Create cancel/save communication vehicles - scripting, emails – and metrics for measuring success in increasing save and retention rates on the phone, in email and by mail.
  • Manage communication and coordination of volunteers who primarily support Sponsorship Operations.
  • Create metrics for increasing levels of service and satisfaction with customer service.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Spearheading a comprehensive prospect research program for Major Gifts
  • Creating prospect profiles for one-on-one meetings
  • Maintaining and updating detailed biographical profiles and master files on all $5,000 plus donors
  • Communicating plausible prospects to Major Gifts department

The Manager plans, coordinates and executes all events for Women for Women’s development department, including the annual fundraising gala, regular cultivation events for major donors including events designed by Leadership Councils, a major donor trip, and events related to outreach activities.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Gala

  • Meet a $1,200,000-plus revenue goal for Women for Women’s annual Gala
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop Gala program, secure key participants such as emcees, honorees, and performers
  • Work with out-of-house designer to develop event materials, including managing the design, copy and production deadlines for all event related collateral including invitations, program booklets, signage and promotional materials
  • Staff high-level volunteers to solicit gifts and strategize about event
  • Coordinate venue, entertainment and all event logistics
  • Write all Gala correspondence, including solicitations, acknowledgments and program copy
  • Manage budgets and financial tracking for the Gala, and supervise database maintenance

We have grown consistently over the past three years and are in the midst of expanding our operations on a global scale. Women for Women International UK began operations in London in summer 2007. Its remit has been to expand the organisation’s presence in the UK and Europe through awareness raising, policy work, outreach and fundraising.

Purpose: The Office Manager is a key post within Women for Women International that is responsible for providing administrative support to the UK office; for managing all facilities and systems; supporting the governance structure of the organization and managing the organisation’s human resources.

Women for Women International are looking for someone who will take the organisation a step further in a key period of growth. Over the next year the organisation has planned a number of investments which will include the recruitment of more staff, some of whom will report to the Office Manager. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Support to Senior Management

  • Manage the diaries of the Director of Operations and Director of Policy and Outreach, ensuring they are adequately briefed for all meetings;
  • Prepare all travel arrangements for the Director of Operations and Director of Policy and Outreach in UK and overseas;
  • Respond to correspondence as delegated  and channelling subsequent correspondence as relevant, recording and monitoring progress;
  • Support the implementation of core project work;
  • Attend necessary meetings with the Director of Operations and Director of Policy and Outreach and arrange a system for managing their work in their absence.

Governance

  • Servicing the Trustees and Advisory Committees of Women for Women International UK.   • Be the main point of contact for Trustees, Committees and Patrons for organisational matters;

  • Support the UK Operations Director in the maintenance of the HR manual and liaise with external HR experts to clarify latest employment law regulations;
