Question: How many more girls are at-risk of permanently dropping out of school due to COVID-19?
Answer: 11 million
According to UNESCO, over 11 million girls may not go back to school after the COVID-19 crisis. This alarming number not only threatens decades of progress made towards gender equality, but also puts girls around the world at risk of adolescent pregnancy, early and forced marriage, and violence.
At Women for Women International, we know that education is crucial—not only for girls, but for adult women as well. Through the Stronger Women, Stronger Nations program, we invest in women survivors of war and conflict. Together with her classmates, a woman breaks the isolation of war and conflict, while learning to save, build businesses, understand her rights, improve her health, and change societal rules.
In the wake of COVID-19, investing in girls' and women's education is paramount.
