Karen Fitzsimmons is a member of Women for Women International’s Global Board of Directors. She serves as a member of the Global Audit Committee.
Ms. Fitzsimmons is a Partner with BDO USA, LLP’s Assurance Division with more than 25 years of public accounting experience serving healthcare and nonprofit organizations in the Mid-Atlantic Area. Previously, Ms. Fitzsimmons spent her professional career as a Partner with Ernst & Young LLP serving as the Mid-Atlantic Area Nonprofit Industry Leader. She specializes in auditing and accounting matters as well as financial advisory projects specific to healthcare and nonprofit organizations. Her experience in nonprofit auditing and consulting includes auditing a wide variety of tax-exempt organizations, including associations, membership organizations, foundations, and healthcare systems; auditing employee benefit plans; presenting audit reports and other financial information to audit committees and other governance bodies; and consulting with clients on regulatory compliance and reporting, internal control reviews, tax-exempt bond financing, tax-exempt merger/acquisition due diligence, fraud investigation, and business process/operational reviews.
Ms. Fitzsimmons has served organizations including INOVA Health System, Suburban Hospital, St. Agnes and Providence Hospitals (members of Ascension Health), Holy Cross Hospital, Westminster Canterbury of Winchester, The Washington Home, Goodwin House, UVA Health Services Foundation, Riverside Health System, Martha Jefferson Health System, Coventry Health Care, Magellan Health Services, The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, The John F.
