DRC Update: February 14, 2025

“Our people are unable to go outside due to the ongoing violence, and they are experiencing severe water shortages as their supplies have been cut off." -- WfWI program participant

I am writing to urgently update you on the rapidly escalating situation in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which has worsened significantly since this morning. M23 rebels have taken over a nearby airport and we have reports they are rapidly approaching Bukavu. These chains of events today are now leaving our staff and the women we serve in danger, and we are doing everything possible to ensure their safety.

“We are terrified that the rebels might arrive here at any moment."

- WfWI program participant

The fear is overwhelming. We are hearing gunfire from various locations and looting has broken out in some areas. As of this morning, we have had no communication from political or administrative authorities, leaving us in the dark about what to expect next.

To ensure the safety of our staff and the women in our programs, we have a crisis management team constantly assessing the situation. We are incredibly grateful that as of right now we have ongoing communication with our staff, and they are safe.

Right now, we need the support of our global community more than ever.
The need for emergency funds to support our staff and the women of DRC is critical. But we cannot do this without your generosity.

Please consider making an emergency donation today to ensure we can continue to provide essential support to the women and families in DRC who are caught in this violence. This is a terrifying time for our colleagues and the women we serve. Your support means more than words can express.

With deep appreciation,
