Reflections on the 2024 US Election

The women survivors of war we work with have the least control over world events, and the most to lose.

Women everywhere are facing policies and rhetoric that threaten their peace, security, and equality — all while the number of armed conflicts and climate emergencies grow. If the new U.S. Administration pulls back from commitments to international aid, it will mean more suffering and more strain on organizations like ours to fill the gap.

As a non-partisan organization, Women for Women International is ready to advocate for the needs and priorities of women affected by conflict, regardless of who is serving in office. Against a backdrop of global challenges, it is critical that the new administration continues to leverage its influence within the international community to advance women’s rights and support women survivors of war to rebuild their lives, families, and communities.

In times of uncertainty, we look to our global sisterhood to renew our faith. We see women in our programs showing up for each other in small but lasting ways to create real change in their communities. Like the women who dare to teach in Afghanistan, keep hope alive in Gaza, or assert their rights in South Sudan. And they find so much hope in us showing up for them.

So let us continue to do just that — show up for them, and for each other.

As we have for the past 30 years, together, we will continue helping women who are searching for a life free of war, sexual abuse, and violence. We will not abandon those in need. Together, we will create a world where all women everywhere can achieve their full potential.

Thank you for everything you do to help make this world possible.
