Like many of you, I'm hurt, angry, and scared for what this means for women and girls in this country and what it could signal for marginalized communities. We know this ruling will have a disproportionate impact on marginalized women, including women of color.
At Women for Women International, we believe women all over the world should have the right to choose. Today women in the U.S. have lost their constitutional right to choose what happens to their bodies.
Outlawing abortion does not prevent it from happening – it only forces women, especially those with limited means, to seek out risky and desperate measures. Unsafe abortion is a major cause of maternal mortality and disability worldwide and our hearts break for the devastating consequences to come here in the U.S.
