Statement on Gaza Ceasefire

Women for Women International welcomes the six-week ceasefire due to go into effect on January 19, 2025, marking a critical first step to ending the unimaginable suffering for women and their families. It is an opportunity for the millions displaced, to return to their homes and for the Israeli hostages and detained Palestinians to be reunited with their loved ones.

With most of Gaza’s infrastructure destroyed and its healthcare collapsed, the need for immediate and unrestricted humanitarian aid has never been more urgent.

Women for Women International’s Palestine Country Director, Amani Mustafa says: “90% of Palestinians in Gaza have been forced from their homes by this brutal war and nearly two million people are in urgent need of aid, many of them women and children. We hope this ceasefire means an end to the Israeli blockade of humanitarian aid trucks so that we can help deliver the supplies that are so desperately needed. This ceasefire must be more than just a temporary pause, it must lead to a permanent end to this catastrophic violence and devastation.”

Over the past 15 months, we’ve been working relentlessly with our local partners in Gaza to provide women and their families with food, shelter and hygiene supplies even in the most dangerous and difficult circumstances. We remain committed to continuing to serve women in the region, meeting their urgent and longer-term needs and helping them heal from the deep trauma inflicted upon them.

It is vital that all parties work together to ensure that this temporary ceasefire serves as the foundation toward securing lasting peace and a future of healing, dignity and safety for all.
