Mothers around the world are overcoming adversity to create a better life for themselves and their children.
Too often, the dreams of women and girls in conflict-affected countries are put on hold. The stark realities of poverty, violence, teen pregnancy, and displacement often mean their dreams are never realized at all.
But for over 30 years, Women for Women International has invested in the power of over 500,000 women survivors of war and conflict to rebuild their families and communities. Our vision is to create a world in which all women determine the course of their lives and reach their full potential.
Consider one remarkable young woman from Nigeria, Nerat. Forced to become a wife and mother at the age of 14, she was thrust into the responsibilities of cooking, cleaning, farming, and eventually caring for a baby she wasn't ready for. Our program ignited a glimmer of hope in Nerat, taught her tangible skills, and reminded her that she was still on the precipice of something great.
“I will use the money I earn and save to return to school. I want to complete secondary school and attend university so that I can go on to fulfill my dream of becoming a naval officer. I am confident I can do it all! I see a future in which my experiences inspire my son, Bright, to excel in life.”
A gift to Women for Women International means more survivors like Nerat can heal their wounds and persue their dreams. This Mother's Day, make a difference for women who are fighting tirelessly for a better future, despite the odds stacked against them.
